On line auxiliary storage device When the storage device is online with the processor it is said to be on line storage device e.g. Hard Disk. Off line auxiliary storage device Storage device not directly on line with the processor are know as off line storage device e.g. Floppy diskette, Magnetic Tape etc. Auxiliary memory stores information and data which may be transferred to and from the main memory while processing and when needed as per programmed. It is virtually higher in capacity and less expensive than main memory, but retrieving time is more than main memory.
